ABOUT US
What We Do:
Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels (MOW) provides free, hot, nutritious meals to 330 to 350 seniors, the homebound and the disabled throughout the Cayman Islands, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year. This service supplies them with the assistance needed to retain their self-worth and independence and the ability to remain in their homes. Isolation is a major issue for many seniors and the social contact provided by our more than 130 volunteers offers some relief for these individuals.
Mission Statement:
Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels is committed to enhancing the lives of seniors and the infirm by assisting them in maintaining their independence at home through our daily home-delivered hot, nutritious lunches and friendly smiles. To inspire hope and encourage well-being while bringing the community together through volunteerism.
Our Story:
The feeding of Cayman’s seniors began as a simple act of Christian kindness — Sunday visits to elderly friends and neighbours who needed a hot meal and a caring face. As the need in our community grew, Meals on Wheels was formally established in 1997 under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman.
In 2014, Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels provided over 37,000 meals to 170 seniors across three districts, with a partial presence in a fourth. By 2019, the programme had expanded to all five districts, serving 245 seniors with more than 50,000 meals delivered. Today, the demand has grown even further: since 2024, Meals on Wheels now provides nearly 80,000 meals each year to over 350 seniors across the Cayman Islands.
Our Future:
As our population ages and needs continue to grow, Meals on Wheels is preparing for the future. Plans are underway for the development of our own dedicated Meals on Wheels building and future home — a space designed to meet the increasing demand for meals, strengthen volunteer coordination, and improve service delivery.
This facility will ensure that no senior in Cayman is left hungry, isolated, or forgotten. It will allow us not only to expand meal production but also to provide a hub for client care, volunteer training, and community connection.
