ABOUT US

What We Do:

Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels (MOW) provides free, hot, nutritious meals to 330 to 350 seniors, the homebound and the disabled throughout the Cayman Islands, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year.  This service supplies them with the assistance needed to retain their self-worth and independence and the ability to remain in their homes. Isolation is a major issue for many seniors and the social contact provided by our more than 130 volunteers offers some relief for these individuals.

Mission Statement:

Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels is committed to enhancing the lives of seniors and the infirm by assisting them in maintaining their independence at home through our daily home-delivered hot, nutritious lunches and friendly smiles.  To inspire hope and encourage well-being while bringing the community together through volunteerism.

History:

The feeding of seniors began as a simple act of Christian kindness by the late Martha McFieldNot simply satisfied with the usual Sunday visits to elderly friends and neighbours, she began cooking and delivering meals before going to church on Sunday mornings. When the need in the community grew, Meals on Wheels formally began in 1997 under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman and Ms. Beulah McField.  At inception, a total of 14 seniors received meals three days a week.  In 2014 Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels fed 170 seniors in three districts with a partial presence in a fourth, with over 37,000 meals being prepared and delivered. In 2019 we served 245 seniors in all five districts providing over 50,000 meals. Since 2020 those figures expanded to providing nearly 80,000 meals each weekday across Grand Cayman.
