What We Do:
Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels (MOW) provides free, hot, nutritious meals to seniors, the homebound and the disabled throughout the Cayman Islands, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year. This service supplies them with the assistance needed to retain their self-worth and independence and the ability to remain in their homes. Isolation is a major issue for many seniors and the social contact provided by our more than 100 volunteers offers some relief for these individuals.
Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels is committed to enhancing the lives of seniors and the infirm by assisting them in maintaining their independence at home through our daily home-delivered hot, nutritious lunches and friendly smiles. To inspire hope and encourage wellbeing while bringing the community together through volunteerism.
The feeding of seniors began as a simple act of Christian kindness by Martha McField, an elderly widow. Not simply satisfied with the usual Sunday visits to elderly friends and neighbours, she began cooking and delivering meals before going to church on Sunday mornings.
Her Christian kindness grew into Meals on Wheels in 1997 with the help of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman and Ms. Beulah McField. At inception, we were feeding 14 seniors three days a week. In 2014 Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels fed 170 seniors in three districts with a partial presence in a fourth, with over 37,000 meals being prepared and delivered. In 2019 we served 245 seniors in all five districts providing over 50,000 meals.
Join Meals on Wheels for an incredible evening of celebration, live entertainment, special guests and live auction, raffle, delicious 3-course meal and so much more! The proceeds of this fundraising gala will help provide 30,000 meals to seniors in need!
