To qualify for home-delivered meals, a person must be at least 65 years old. In addition, the individual may suffer from a chronic physical, illness or without support in the home, preventing him or her from shopping for food or preparing meals for himself or herself, deemed homebound or who cannot financially afford to feed themselves. Each application is assed on an individual basis
There are no financial requirements, meals are provided FREE of charge to those in need. Anyone over age 65, as long as he or she meets the above provisions, can receive Meals on Wheels. The local meal provider may ask for a voluntary contribution from each client based on what he or she can afford to pay.
When you make the phone call to your local meal provider, someone will arrange an assessment appointment at your home. There is usually not more than 3-5 days between your initial phone call and the assessment. Once you are deemed eligible, meals will start right away. The Meals on Wheels program is an option, whether he or she is temporarily or permanently homebound.
